THE STORY OF MAVEN
The First Seed
The making of an award-winning connoisseur cannabis brand came from humble beginnings. Maven Genetics sprouted from a single seed of Pre-98 Bubba Kush cultivated in the closet of our CEO and co-founder, David Bosworth. This covert venture quickly developed into a lifelong fascination and love for cannabis, one that has driven us forward for over two decades.
Viva La Valley
Once a single room was no longer sufficient, David partnered up with Jason Ainsworth and expanded his cultivation of classic cannabis strains into multiple residential properties throughout the San Fernando Valley. Despite the challenging regulations and legalities, the duo persisted and ultimately overcame these adversities, ensuring they could continue to supply High-End Flower to patients in need.
Making of a Maven
As their operation steadily grew, the pair joined forces with Mike Corvington and Shane Ponto. With Dave’s business–savvy mindset, Jason’s ambition, Mike’s passion for the plant, and Shane’s creative drive – these four Los Angeles natives and business partners used their unique talents and skills to build a brand together and take it to the next level.
The founders began to notice dispensaries rebranding and selling their novel strains – and they were gaining recognition, winning awards, and sparking conversation within the cannabis community. Shortly afterward, the founders made the transition from supplying other brands with Top-Shelf Flower to creating a proprietary line of their own. The name Maven, meaning ‘expert’ or ‘connoisseur’, was suggested by co-owner Shane Ponto, and its meaning deeply resonated with their mission.

Maven was now occupying multiple large warehouses, and strains such as Saturn OG, XXX OG, and Skywalker OG started to hit the streets. Co-owner Shane began to personally distribute bags of flower out of his truck on Ventura Boulevard. At this time, the first wave of original OG’s began to grow in popularity, and create a buzz.
Risking It All
In the final step towards expansion, our founders sold everything they owned and invested in their first major legal project, Kush Alley. This North Hills dispensary and grow facility is where black market Maven Genetics met compliance and regulation.
The Cutting Edge
Departing from following genetic trends and diving deeper into the world of craft cannabis, Maven began a series of exciting cross-pollination experiments in search of the most exotic and innovative strains.
2021 was a pivotal year, with exciting genetic developments leading to some of our most popular strains to date, such as Orange Truffle Soufflé, Blue Lotus, and Blueberry Mac, which we continue to crossbreed on the never-ending hunt for “the next unicorn.”
Our Flagship Sets Sail
In July 2022, we opened our first flagship retail location, The Maven Store. Now Maven fans from all walks of life have the opportunity to purchase their favorite strains directly from the source. In a truly full circle moment – we are located in the heart of the San Fernando Valley, in Tarzana, right on Ventura Boulevard.
