GENETICS

PHENO-HUNTING

We are driven by the ongoing pursuit of unique genetics. This journey requires a significant amount of passion and dedication, involving thousands of seeds and hours to develop exceptional, one-of-a-kind cultivars.

We're constantly searching for distinctive and desirable traits like flavor, aroma, structure, color, potency, and yield.

Through extensive research and development, we can precisely identify and selectively breed these sought-after qualities to create the next Maven strain.

Since our very first seed, pheno-hunting has been the cornerstone to our philosophy in producing the highest caliber cannabis.

This meticulous process involves selecting the best phenotype of a strain, similar to a treasure hunt for gold.

Pheno-hunting studies two distinct aspects of the cannabis plant: its Genotype and Phenotype.

When a male and female cannabis plant are bred to create a new strain, the female produces many seeds, all of which are phenotypes.

Like humans, each seed has a personality, displaying a unique set of characteristics based on genetic lineage and the environment. This is why different phenotypes of your favorite strain can look and feel different, varying by the cultivator. For example, if you take identical seeds and grow one indoors versus one outdoors (or in a different type of soil), the final flower will be extremely different.

Here is an example of our very own Blue and Cherry Lotus seeds. These two seeds share a similar genetic lineage, or genotype - but have phenotypes that are expressed quite differently.

Below is the genetic lineage tree of one of our core strains, XXX OG. Through extensive breeding over the past few years, notice how many of your favorite strains today share similar genotypes.

CULTIVATION

During our cultivation process, we focus on techniques that treat the cannabis plant with the utmost care and integrity.

We begin with spun Rockwool, an inert medium that allows us to precisely control the nutrients in the soil.

We nourish the plant with naturally occurring salt fertilizers, comprised of a proprietary blend of micro and macronutrients.

We employ a combination of HPS and LED Lighting (we have 300 lights in our Nursery and 1,200 in our Bloom Rooms!).

We try to operate as efficiently and sustainably as possible, using Regenerative Cultivation Techniques such as; Drip Irrigation, Reclaiming Condensation, Composting Media, and Crop Steering (an intentional practice used to maximize yield and minimize water runoff).

We primarily rely on the use of beneficial insects to keep our plants safe and healthy. Any pesticides we may need to use are always 100% organic and plant-based.

Once harvested, our flower is immediately preserved in the optimal conditions necessary to keep the terpene profiles intact. We cure our Flower at 58°F and 60% humidity. Timing is everything, and we take a slow and steady approach to the curing process.

We hand-trim all of our flower, always holding from the stem to avoid damaging the natural trichome structure.

The trimmed flower is then stored in airtight containers, almost like a second cure, until the product is packaged and ready for distribution.

At Maven Genetics, we are diligent about these practices. Our mission is to create a refined experience from start to finish, a reflection of our love for this plant.
