R&D is a dialogue between our growers and our community, pushing the boundaries of what Maven can create next. Built around an intentional, hands-on pheno-hunting process, R&D allows our cultivation and genetics team to explore new cultivars, test elite phenotypes, and rigorously vet them before determining their path to full production. These releases represent months—often over a year—of focused selection, refinement, and evaluation.
Each R&D drop features limited, micro-batch releases of new strains and phenotypes, offered as a preview of what may shape future Maven catalogs. Every selection is assessed for structure, flavor, aroma, terpene expression, and overall experience—no shortcuts, no compromises.
Community feedback plays a critical role in this process. Through our QR-based polling system, consumers are invited behind the scenes to share their thoughts, directly influencing which phenotypes advance from experimental to flagship release.
The Process
Step 1:
Pick up our latest R&D drop from our store or one of our retail partners.
Step 2:
Smoke your R&D strain and evaluate it. Note down what you like or don’t like about it. We’re looking for as much detailed feedback on the taste, smell, and effects as you can give us.
Step 3:
Scan the QR code on your jar and fill out our strain survey. We go through every submission, positive and negative, in order to assess how each strain was received.
Step 4:
Strains that have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from you and our team are added to our current strain lineup and are given a full release.
